Christianity Explored Reaches 1,250 Latin Americans

    -

Christianity Explored Ministry (CEM) announced that 1,250 people in Latin America have been trained in mission through the Christianity Explored course.

There are now about 100 evangelists from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay, reports Inspire Magazine.

26,000 copies of Mark’s Gospel (on which the Christianity Explored course is based) have already been distributed to give away to non-Christian people in these countries. However, the CEM disclosed that the new evangelists have more work to do in reaching out the region with the gospel. In Uruguay, 3.4m citizens claimed to be Catholics, but only about 2% of them go to church regularly.

“One of the tragic distortions of the Gospel that evangelicals face in Latin America is the prosperity gospel. Pastors have told me the Christianity Explored materials are a tremendous help in clarifying the true Gospel,” said Billy King, from Christianity Explored North America.

King has already led two evangelism conferences in the region. The first conference was in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, which was attended by 30 people. The next was in Temuco, Chile with 120 attendees, mostly pastors.

King is set to lead two major Christianity Explored training conferences in October 2019 in Bogota and Cartagena, Colombia.

Meantime, the Prisoner’s Journey, a prison adaptation of the Christianity Explored course, was able to reach more people in the region, with nearly 35,000 Latin American prisoners graduating from the program in 2018.

Latin America has the second highest Christian population in the world, with 601 million Christian residents, according to the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. By percentage, Latin America claims the highest percentage of Christians, at 92%, reports Aleteia.
